Honda Prelude 2026: Here it is at last!
The long-awaited return of the Honda Prelude as a 2026 model is now a reality with the official unveiling of the production model. Taking over from the discontinued Civic Coupe and borrowing components from the high-performance Civic Type R, this new two-door hatchback proves that Honda is still committed to sportiness and driving pleasure.

The 2026 Prelude will arrive at Canadian dealerships in late 2025. Until then, here's what you need to know about it.
Exclusively hybrid
It was already known: the new Prelude uses the same system as the Civic hybrid, namely two electric motors paired with a 2.0-liter direct-injection Atkinson cycle gasoline engine. We now know that power and torque are 200 hp and 232 lb-ft, respectively, which matches the figures for its four- and five-door siblings. Expect a 0-60 mph sprint time of around 7 seconds and average fuel consumption of approximately 5 L/100 km. Four driving modes are available: Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual.
A direct drive transmission, different from a conventional or electronic CVT, is also standard, which may disappoint some potential buyers. Honda innovates with a clutch system called S+, which simulates gear changes. In this mode, the Prelude performs virtual downshifts, automatically adjusts engine speed, and artificially amplifies the engine sound through the speakers. Again, this is no substitute for a good old manual transmission, which is reserved for the Civic Si.
Solid components
In addition, the 2026 Honda Prelude (only one version available) features 19-inch black wheels and, like the Civic Type R, Brembo aluminum four-piston front brake calipers, double-wishbone front suspension, and variable dampers specially calibrated for the Prelude.
Inside, expect leather-trimmed sport seats with perforated houndstooth pattern, integrated headrests, and three-level heating. Note that the driver's seat is more padded than the passenger seat to provide better support when cornering. There's also a flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel with alloy shift paddles and sport pedals.
Due to the 2+2 configuration, the rear seats are relatively narrow—better used for extra cargo than passengers.
Familiar technologies
The cockpit remains familiar, combining a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster with a 9-inch touchscreen. The multimedia system integrates Google features and is wirelessly compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Added to this are a Wi-Fi modem, a wireless phone charger, and a premium 8-speaker Bose Centerpoint sound system.
Finally, the full range of Honda Sensing safety and driver assistance technologies is included, including collision mitigation braking with pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition.
How much?
The 2026 Honda Prelude will be available in Canada in three colors: Winter White Pearl (new), Crystal Black Pearl, and Rally Red. Those who wish to can customize their car with a new line of genuine accessories, including exclusive wheel designs, a black rear spoiler, front underbody spoilers, and black emblems and mirror housings.
Prices for the Prelude will be announced closer to its launch date toward the end of the year. Logically, they should start just under $40,000.
