GMC Hummer EV 2026: even more explosive and agile off-road
The cover star of The Car Guide 2022, the GMC Hummer EV has been in the news a lot in recent years. The 2026 model, which will hit the market in a few months' time, will receive a mid-term update that will improve its acceleration and off-road skills, among other things.
Firstly, following on from the CrabWalk mode, which allows diagonal travel, the company has added the King Crab function, which takes the four-wheel steering system even further. Essentially, the rear wheels turn much faster than the front ones, so that the vehicle can make extremely tight turns, enhancing its maneuverability.
In snow, sand or any loose surface, the Hummer EV in King Crab mode can practically turn on a dime, as they say.
Good news for owners of 2025 and earlier models: they too will be able to benefit from this via a remote software update.
Faster than ever
The GMC Hummer EV 2026, in both SUV and pickup configuration, will also be available in an ultra-limited number of Carbon Fiber Editions. This is visually distinguished by its Magnus Grey matt paintwork, exclusive 22-inch carbon wheels (including spare wheel on the SUV), carbon-fiber inserts on the hood, mirror caps and skid plate, and black emblems.
As a bonus, it will be the most explosive Hummer EV to date, with a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint time of just 2.8 seconds. Aside from optimized software, GMC unfortunately gives no details of what makes it all possible.
Other new features
Otherwise, for 2026, the Hummer EV benefits from new shock absorber settings that will improve roadholding just a tad, a bi-directional charging function to power various devices or even recharge another electric vehicle, and a more advanced Super Cruise hands-free driving system with which automatic lane changes can synchronize with the route entered in the navigation system.
Last but not least, two new body colors, Coastal Dune and Auburn Matte, and two interior themes, Granite and Stealth Eclipse, have been added to the menu.
