Ford announces two new head-turning Mustangs
On the sidelines of the Detroit Auto Show, which got underway today, Ford announced two new performance-oriented Mustangs, one of them very exclusive.
Let's start with the latter, the Mustang GTD Spirit of America, which, among other things, pays tribute to the audacity of Ford engineers and to the fact that the new Mustang GTD 2025 became the first American car to complete a lap of the legendary German Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in under seven minutes.
The U.S.-flag car features a Performance White body with Racing Red and Lightning Blue stripes running down the center. The front spoiler, diffuser and rear spoiler are all made of exposed carbon fiber, the latter grafted with Race Red plates on each side and bearing the inscription “MUSTANG” underneath.
The brake callipers are also painted Race Red, and the Mustang GTD Performance Package is included as standard. On board, the seats stand out with their combination of leather and Dinamica faux-suede. Although Onyx Black predominates, blue, white and red stitching and accents once again evoke American patriotism.
No changes have been made to the engine, so the same 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque are to be found under the hood. The Mustang GTD Spirit of America is available to order now in all markets where Ford sells this bombshell to a small number of pre-selected customers, including Canada - or the 51st U.S. state, some might say.
Mustang RTR
In Detroit, Ford also gave a sneak preview of the new Mustang RTR developed in collaboration with drift champion and president of RTR Vehicles, Vaughn Gittin Jr. Borrowing several performance components from the V8-powered Mustang Dark Horse, this racer is based on the turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang EcoBoost.
Too bad, precise details are not yet known.
“I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to create what we believe to be the most exciting turbocharged Mustang ever,” said Gittin Jr. ”This Mustang RTR is pure accessible fun, with many enhancements, including Mustang Dark Horse components, near-perfect Mustang EcoBoost weight distribution and signature RTR styling. It's ready for drifting, drag racing, road cruising or autocross racing.”
Visually, there are Brembo brake callipers in Hyper Lime and a raised rear spoiler painted in Dark Carbon Grey. The rest of the body features a special camouflage pattern in anticipation of the Mustang RTR's official unveiling later this year.
A Ford of Canada spokeswoman confirms that this car will be available in Canada. The company aims to attract customers who plan to start driving on racetracks and enjoy the thrill of sliding.
