Electric vehicles: what drivers are most concerned about ?
While almost all Canadian electric vehicle drivers say they are satisfied with their purchase (97%), according to a CAA survey, some concerns remain after purchase. Here are the most common ones.
Public charging stations
Of the 16,000 electric vehicle owners surveyed, 44% said they were concerned about the availability of public charging stations.
Autonomy
Long car trips still don't inspire complete confidence. Indeed, more than a third of those surveyed (36%) would not use their electric vehicle for a long trip. In fact, most of these drivers (67%) also own a gasoline-powered vehicle, which they prefer for long trips.
Cold and battery degradation
Drivers reported that some concerns were alleviated after purchasing their electric vehicle, but not entirely eliminated. This is especially true for battery life.
Concerns about this issue drop 37 percentage points to 30% after purchase. The same goes for cold weather performance, with concerns dropping 25 percentage points to 33%, and concerns about battery degradation dropping 41 percentage points to 13% after purchase.
