Confirmed: the Hyundai IONIQ 9 2026 offers a range of up to 539 km
The Hyundai IONIQ 9 2026, an all-new three-row electric SUV that The Car Guide was able to test drive in South Korea earlier this month, will arrive in dealerships towards the end of spring.
The manufacturer promised us at least 500 km of range with each of the three configurations on the menu, and they've kept their word, as proven by the official range ratings recently published by Natural Resources Canada.
All IONIQ 9 models are based on an evolution of the Hyundai Group's E-GMP platform, and use a 110.3 kWh lithium-ion battery. The rear-wheel drive, single-motor model (215 hp) can travel up to 539 km on a full charge, while the all-wheel drive, twin-motor model (303 hp) goes up to 515 km.
The latter is also available in a Performance version (422 hp). Here, we're talking about a range of just 500 km. In short, if the IONIQ 9 has to concede the power advantage to the Kia EV9 from Hyundai's sister company, it makes up for it by traveling longer distances between recharges.
Of course, the above range figures apply under ideal conditions, with no passengers or luggage on board. The large families for whom this three-row electric SUV is intended should not expect the same.
What's more, given the small difference in range between the single-motor and twin-motor IONIQ 9s, the former seems much less interesting given its modest power to move a loaded vehicle. Not to mention its capacity of 3,500 lb. instead of 5,000 lb. with two motors.
But there's still the question of price... and the return of the Quebec subsidy for zero-emission vehicles, officially suspended from February 1 to March 31, 2025. The Roulez vert program set a $65,000 limit for eligibility. The Quebec government's next budget, to be tabled on March 25, will probably tell us more.
By the way, when our colleague Julien Amado asked Hyundai if a base price of $60,000 made sense, they didn't deny it. To be continued...
