
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X 2026: 1,250 Horsepower to Take Down Ferrari and McLaren
Chevrolet goes all out with its Corvette, offering an expanded range (Stingray, E-Ray, Z06) that this year welcomed the powerful 1,064-hp ZR1. Now, the bow-tied automaker is adding even more with an even more radical variant. Make way for the ZR1X and its 1,250-horsepower cavalry.
Created to rival the great exotics such as the Ferrari F80 and McLaren W1, this Corvette was already in the plans when the C8 was being built. “From day one, we designed the architecture of the mid-engined Corvette with the ZR1X in mind,” says Ken Morris, Senior Vice President of General Motors.
ZR1 and electrification
Capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in under 2 seconds and completing the quarter-mile in under 9 seconds, the ZR1X promises to be a track beast. Mechanically, it takes the twin-turbo V8 (codenamed LT7) from the ZR1, whose 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque are sent to the rear axle via an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The front end, like the E-Ray, receives an electric motor that gives it all-wheel drive, but with improved power and torque of 186 hp (+26) and 145 lb-ft (+20) respectively. Engineers have retained the same 1.9 kWh battery without modifying its chemistry.
"We have, however, modified the battery's usable energy. We've increased it by around 26%. This autonomy allows us to deliver more power and achieve greater torque and performance on the front axle", explains Chevrolet Chief Engineer Josh Holder. So, by combining the strength of the V8 and the electric motor - which can deliver maximum power at up to 257 km/h - the Corvette ZR1Z develops 1,250 hp.
Circuit-ready
To extract maximum performance on the track, the ZR1X has been optimized in every respect. For example, the turbos are located as close as possible to the exhaust valves to improve throttle response. It also benefits from an anti-shift control that maintains turbo pressure.
At the wheel, the rider can choose between three driving modes that optimize battery and electric motor use according to the situation. Endurance mode, activated by pressing the Charge + button, deploys energy strategically for long sessions. Qualification mode maximizes power for the best track time. Finally, Push-to-pass mode releases the full cavalry on the spot.
And for slowing down? Standard on the ZR1X and optional on the ZR1, the J59 package uses Alcon brakes. The Corvette benefits from 10-piston calipers at the front and 6-piston calipers at the rear, as well as 16.5-inch carbon ceramic discs at all four corners. Chevrolet noted a deceleration of up to 1.9 G when braking between 290 and 193 km/h. That's quite something!
The ZR1X is also available in two chassis configurations, each featuring Magnetic Ride Control suspension - which analyzes road conditions in real time. The standard version is fitted with Michelin PS4S tires. The ZTK Performance package incorporates longer-travel suspension, firmer calibration and Pilot Cup 2R tires. In short, this Corvette is formidable on the track.
A high-tech interior
On the road, the ZR1X promises to be civilized, according to Chevrolet. That remains to be seen, but in the meantime, it will be available with a fixed or retractable hardtop. What's more, the Carbon Aero package - capable of generating 1,200 lb of downforce at top speed (375 km/h) - comes as standard on models equipped with the ZTK package.
Introduced last month, all 2026 Corvettes feature an updated cockpit. It now features three screens and a redesigned console.
The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X will be assembled at General Motors' Bowling Green plant in Kentucky. The car should arrive in dealerships by the end of the year, and pricing will be announced at a later date.
