BMW iX 2026: much more power and range on the menu
The updated BMW iX 2026, which the Car Guide had a preview of last fall, is officially revealed today. In Canada, it will continue to be offered in three newly renamed versions, and these are expected to arrive at dealerships this spring from the German factory in Dingolfing.
The updated and slightly refined exterior design stands out primarily due to a grille whose frame and pattern have been redesigned. It can be illuminated optionally on the iX xDrive45 and xDrive60, and comes standard on the M70 xDrive version. The diagonal lines of the grille are mirrored in the headlights, which have also been revised.
At the rear, the bodywork is smoother, and the lower part of the bumper has been reshaped to integrate a diffuser (standard on the iX M70 xDrive, with the M Sport package for the others). In general, there are fewer contrasting elements. Let's not forget to mention the choice of new aerodynamic wheel designs in 20, 21, and 22 inches, as well as the five new paint colors, including Arctic Race Blue Metallic and Dune Gray Metallic.
The interior of the 2026 BMW iX can be equipped for the first time with new multifunctional M seats that, in addition to their striking style, provide better lateral support and offer a wide range of adjustments, including for the width of the backrest.
Available as an option on the iX xDrive45 and xDrive60, and as standard on the M70 xDrive, a package adds heating surfaces to various contact points, which will delight many Quebec drivers. Meanwhile, the Sky Lounge panoramic roof extends over both rows of seats and includes an on-demand dimming function.
Some muscle reinforcement
Each of the three versions of the 2026 BMW iX receives a new name due to their increased power. However, only the entry-level version reduces its acceleration time:
- iX xDrive45 – 402 hp (+80), 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds (-1)
- iX xDrive60 – 536 hp (+20), 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds
- iX M70 xDrive – 650 hp (+40) in Launch Control mode, 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds
A tow bar will be available as an option during the summer. In any case, the maximum capacity is 1,587 kg (3,500 lb).
The suspension and chassis control systems of the iX have been recalibrated to account for the increased power and new weight distribution resulting from the optimized battery technology. Additionally, the reduced mass and friction of the wheels and tires contribute to greater energy efficiency.
Enhanced autonomy
Additionally, new silicon carbide semiconductors, a new battery management system, and a new inverter have been added. The estimated range is greatly improved, especially in the base version (the official ratings from Natural Resources Canada are yet to come):
- iX xDrive45 – 502 km (+150), 100.1 kWh battery
- iX xDrive60 – 547 km (+40), 113.4 kWh battery
- iX M70 xDrive – 486 km (+27), 112.8 kWh battery
A feature called "Maximum Autonomy" allows you to increase the distance that can be traveled before recharging by up to 25% by limiting the available power and reducing certain comfort features. Additionally, you should know that a more efficient heat pump is included as standard, which is great news considering the coldness of our winters.
How much?
As mentioned in the introduction, the 2026 BMW iX will begin arriving in Canada this spring. Prices are already known, and the entry-level xDrive45 increases from $82,000 (MSRP) to $88,900. However, the other two versions do not experience any price inflation. The xDrive60 version even drops from $98,000 to $94,900, while the M70 xDrive remains at $129,000.
