And five: the Tremor family expands again with the Ford Explorer 2026

Alongside our first test of the Ford Expedition 2025 earlier in May, the fine strategists at the American brand had also planned a closely watched launch. Indeed, we were unable to broach the subject of the fifth member of the Tremor family until today.

For 2026, Ford is adding a Tremor variant to its Explorer range, a recipe that seems to be attracting more and more consumers in recent years. The adventure sells, if everything currently on the market is anything to go by.

A more off-road-capable Explorer

Other Tremor-badged vehicles already benefit from a range of modifications to help them cope with deteriorating conditions. The new Tremor Explorer doesn't change this formula. Sure, it's not likely to trouble a Ford Bronco or even one of the Raptor pickups in this respect, but the engineers assigned to the project were keen to equip the three-row SUV appropriately.

That's why the Explorer Tremor leaves the factory with special 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Note also the “burnt spice” detail on one of the spokes of each wheel. The “Tremor” coloring is also found in the center of the front grille, as well as on the tow hooks, rear bumper and badges. There's also additional protection under the vehicle, while ground clearance gains an inch. And that's not all, as this Tremor model also gets a Torsen limited-slip differential on the second axle, an essential component for enhanced traction when the going gets tough.

To complete the picture, the Ford Explorer Tremor 2026 features high-intensity LED fog lamps integrated into the front grille. As for its powertrain, we're talking about a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, good for 300 horsepower. However, it is possible to upgrade to a 3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, which delivers 400 hp. Then, to better withstand slightly rough roads, suspension adjustments (dampers, anti-roll bars, etc.) are unique to the Tremor. As a result, you can expect a softer bounce than in the Explorer ST, for example.

Tremor ambience

Less extreme than a Ford Bronco Raptor, the Explorer Tremor still features some exclusive touches, starting with the “burnt spice” stitching on the steering wheel, upholstery, dashboard and door panels. The leather- and suede-covered seats are embroidered with Tremor under the headrests in the first row. Nothing to write home about, but worthy of note nonetheless. And then, we have to at least applaud the fairly dark ambience inside, especially on the carpets and seats, as a paler alternative would be easy to get dirty when the vehicle ventures onto a dusty road.

The higher position within the Explorer range places this off-road variant in a favorable space when it comes to standard or even optional equipment. BlueCruise 1.5 technology can accompany the vehicle, a driving assistance system that is a good complement for those who would like a moment's respite on the highway. This system can be used on over 200,000 km of roads in North America, and also offers the possibility of changing lanes without any driver intervention.

With the optional Ford Connectivity Package, users can surf the web while enjoying applications from Google's integrated technology. The Copilot 360 2.0 system is also part of the specification sheet, another piece of equipment designed to ensure occupant safety. Finally, a 14-speaker high-end audio system, courtesy of Bang & Olufsen, is aimed at those who place a minimum of importance on music while driving.

The order book is officially open as of today, with the first examples of the new Ford Explorer Tremor 2026 expected later in 2025. Prices are not yet known, but the vehicle is expected to cost less than the Platinum and ST versions.
