AJAC announces its top 12 vehicles in Canada for 2026
At the opening of the Montreal Auto Show at the Palais des congrès, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) named the 12 best vehicles in the country for 2026. The list includes newcomers, refreshed models, and Canadian buyers' favorites.
The vehicles in contention were all tested by AJAC members on the same roads and under the same conditions that Canadian drivers experience every day from coast to coast. Without further ado, here are the three finalists in the various categories:
Canadian Car of the Year
- Honda Civic (reigning champion)
- Hyundai Elantra
- Porsche 911 Carrera
Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year
Canadian Electric Vehicle of the Year
“After driving these models and putting them through rigorous testing, 53 of Canada's top automotive journalists concluded that these are the best vehicles in the country in their respective categories,” said AJAC President Evan Williams. “I am proud of our judges, who work tirelessly each year to determine the best vehicles in Canada, providing consumers looking for their next new vehicle with relevant and objective information.”
The winners in the four categories will be announced on February 12 at a ceremony at the Toronto Auto Show. The North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year 2026 awards have already been presented to the Dodge Charger, Ford Maverick Lobo, and Hyundai Palisade, respectively.
