5 Vehicles That Are Roomier Than You Think
If SUVs and crossovers are so popular today, that’s because they fulfil a need for more space that many drivers have. On the other hand, modern cars are also much more spacious than the generations that preceded them.
Are you in the market for a handy pre-owned car that will serve you well? Here are five recent models that offer more room than you think.
Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen
Most Volkswagen cars’ interiors are bigger than one would think, including the Jetta and the Passat. In the station wagon version of the Golf, called Sportwagen, you can load no less than 861 litres behind the back seat, something to make many SUVs jealous. Once the seats are down, the cargo volume increases to 1,883 litres. Isn’t it great? In addition, thanks to its 2.63-metre wheelbase, the rear passengers also have plenty of leg room.
Subaru Crosstrek
The Crosstrek is the best buy in the subcompact SUV segment according to The Car Guide, and a favourite for many Quebec drivers, not just because of its effective all-wheel drive, but also because of its interior space. Although the trunk’s capacity is only slightly above average (588 litres, same as the five-door Impreza), the cabin surprises with ample space for all occupants, especially at the back.
Kia Soul
Car or mini-SUV? No matter what segment it belongs to, the Soul is one convenient little vehicle. From its square shape, you can expect a roomy interior, but what about a 663-litre trunk? And when you fold the back seat down, this volume goes up to 1,758 litres. Note that these figures apply to the generation introduced for 2020, which is much more spacious than the two previous ones.
Honda Fit
The Fit is a perfect example of efficient use of space. Despite its subcompact car dimensions, the model, which was retired two years ago, offers a 470-litre trunk that expands to almost 1,500 litres by lowering the rear back rests. And the Magic Seat, with its folding up bottom, creates additional convenient cargo space behind the front seats. This allows the Fit to carry many more things than other vehicles.
Hyundai IONIQ
This vehicle also disappeared recently, but it remains an excellent pre-owned hybrid vehicle choice. With a profile similar to Toyota’s Prius, the IONIQ sedan is in fact more of a hatchback and its trunk can handle up to 750 litres. As for the rear seats, they’re roomy enough for two adults.
