4 new sports cars to discover at the Montreal Auto Show
The Montreal Auto Show 2025 officially opens today, and The Car Guide continues its coverage of the event with an overview of what's new in the world of sports cars, whether gasoline, hybrid or 100% electric.
We're not talking about Luc Poirier's collection of exotic cars or Shelby's supercars, for example, but about production models that have just arrived on the market. Which of the four below appeals most to you?
Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 2025
Let's start with the most powerful of them all. Who would have thought that the Corvette would one day unleash 1,064 horsepower? The new Corvette ZR1 for 2025 does just that, without any electrification but armed with a vastly optimized 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine. Never before has an American carmaker produced such a muscular V8.
Chevrolet talks of a quarter-mile in under 10 seconds, and achieved a top speed of 375 km/h - a record for a production car from an American automaker, according to GM. The enormous carbon-fibre rear spoiler provides over 1,200 lb of downforce at full velocity. Finally, it's impossible not to mention the return of the split rear window, an important element in Corvette history.
Ford Mustang GTD 2025
Officially the most powerful production Mustang in history, the 815-hp Mustang GTD track beast remains ultra-exclusive, with Ford reserving it for a select group of customers. Thanks to its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, it recently became the first American car to complete a lap of Germany's legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit in under seven minutes (see video here).
The Mustang GTD is the result of two years' work to transform the Mustang GT3 racing car into a super-sporty Mustang for the road. It features a semi-active suspension from Ontario-based Multimatic, which also handles production, just as it did for the Ford GT.
Dodge Charger Daytona 2024
The first electric muscle car finally hits the market... much to the chagrin of purists. Manufactured right here in Canada, at a lower price than in the U.S. (it has to be done!), the new Charger Daytona doesn't feature a V8, despite what its Fratzonic exhaust system might suggest, but rather two electric motors.
Power ranges from 496 to 670 hp, and ranges from 418 to 510 km. The Scat Pack version sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds, while the Donut and Drift modes will delight slide fans. Our first contact was very conclusive. Please note: gasoline models with twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engines will also be available in 2025.
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 2025
Mercedes-Benz is one of the brands returning to the Montreal Auto Show in 2025. Among its contingent, the second-generation AMG GT coupe is proudly on display, more specifically a GT 63 version. A 4-liter twin-turbo V8 gives it 585 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 315 km/h.
By the way, if you ever want more, the AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE adds a rear electric motor and F1-derived technologies to form an electrifying hybrid system. With a total of 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 2.8 seconds!
